Subscribers of failed Federal Government on Nigeria (FGN), Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) Nationwide Housing Scheme located at Apo-Tafyi District of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja have vowed to sustain agitations until they reclaim the land.

The subscribers, under the aegis of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) Good Home Subscribers Association had earlier carried peaceful protest to the house of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Musa Mohammed Sambo, and the headquarters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to to protest delay in resolution of failed housing scheme.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the group declared that the agitation will only end as soon as the concerned authorities give them their land which they paid for since 2013/2014.

In a written speech read out to members of the press by Mr. Abasi-Ubong Attah, a subscriber, the group declared that the agitation will end as soon as the concerned authorities give back the land which their members paid for since 2012/2014.

“The body of subscribers came for a peaceful public protest together with Chief Anuna. He did not represent himself, rather he was chosen to speak on behalf of all subscribers.

“This agitation will end as soon as the concerned authorities give us our land which we paid for since 2013/2014. ;

“The Press should interview the FCT Minister too. In 2020, he gave 90 days ultimatum to a special committee to resolve the matter but 90 days has turned to 3 years without any clear headway. Why has the Minister not called us for any briefing since 2020?

“May we also inform the whole world that Chief Anuna was physically assaulted by the NLC President Ayuba Wabba in the presence of all Stakeholders. If anything happens to Chief Emeka Anuna and his wife, the NLC Chairman should be held responsible” reads parts of the speech.

Giving further background to what transpired Mr. Abasi-Ubong Attah, said:
“In 2014, the FGN (represented ihe Federal Capital Territory Authority) and | ine NLC/TUC signed a memorandum of understanding with a property developer, Goodhomes Development Company Limited, to deliver 1,000 units (out of a total of 10,000 units) of houses to Nigeridn workers within | year. The parcel of land on . which these properties would be built is located at Apo-Tafyi district after the Mechanic village at Apo Abuja-FCT.

“The project was flagged off on Thursday 18th December 2014 by the then Federal Republic of Nigeria, led by Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR}.

“Sequél to the flag-off ceremony, the property developer in collaboration with the NLC and TUC had publicized and sensitized Nigerian workers to subscribe to the scheme. On the strength of the involvement of both Labour unions, hundreds ‘ of Nigerian workers subscribed for the scheme by making up-front payment in various sums ranging from 10% to) 100% down payment.

“As at the last count, Stakeholders have identified a total of 160 subscribers who made an investment of N406, 034, 000 on the project since 2013/2014. The moneys were paid into a bank account owned and operated by Good Homes Development Company Limited”.
