The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed has issued a strong warning to motorists and members of the public against any form of assault on its personnel, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on attacks against operatives carrying out their lawful duties.

Osondu Ohaeri,Deputy Corps Commander,
Corps Public Education Officer, in a statement, said that this follows the arrest of a suspect involved in the assault of an FRSC patrol team in Edo State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 11 April 2026, involved a patrol team from RS5.1 Edo Sector Command who had flagged down a vehicle for seat belt violation. In a brazen act of defiance, the driver fled the scene with an FRSC Marshal still engaged in enforcement, before mobilising a group of commercial tricycle operators who violently attacked the officers.

The Marshal was forcefully pushed into a gutter and assaulted, while the Team Leader was also physically attacked. The suspect subsequently escaped.

Upon swift collaboration with security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), the offender was tracked, apprehended, and has since confessed to the crime, expressing remorse for his actions. The FRSC commends the professionalism and prompt response of the security agencies in ensuring the suspect was brought to justice.

The Corps Marshal emphasizes that assault on law enforcement officers is a serious criminal offence and will be met with the full weight of the law. While acknowledging the suspect’s remorse, the Corps reiterates that due process will be followed, and appropriate legal action pursued to serve as a deterrent to others.

Members of the public are therefore advised to cooperate with FRSC operatives at all times and utilize established channels for complaints or redress, rather than resorting to violence. The Corps remains committed to its mandate of ensuring safer roads while upholding the rule of law and protecting its personnel.

The injured Marshal is currently in stable condition and receiving appropriate care.
The Corps will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that all perpetrators of violence against its personnel are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted accordingly.
