The League of Anambra Journalists in Abuja (LAJA), has appealed to politicians, contestants, electorates and those who believe in using attacks, murder and other forms of violence in winning election to desist from the act. The Association strongly condemned such evil practices, barely three months to the 2025 governorship election. In a statement signed by its interim President, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, and Secretary, Princess Ekwi the Association described the current wave of insecurity as “very deplorable and devastating.”
Despite efforts by the State Government to curtail insecurity, high-profile attacks and killings have remained on the increase.
Faulting the development in its entirety, LAJA acknowledged the State Government’s efforts to stem the tide of insecurity but expressed concern over the ineffectiveness of these efforts.
The statement implied a need for more effective measures to address the security challenges in the state.
The 2025 Anambra State Governorship election is scheduled for November 8, 2025, with 16 political parties cleared to participate. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates and announced the commencement of election campaigns.
Given the current security situation, the concerns raised by the Anambra Journalists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) highlight the need for urgent attention to address the rising insecurity in Anambra State.
“Enough of these attacks and killings,” the Association advised politicians, contestants, electorates and other stakeholders, who believe in the do -or- die type of politics.
